Parents and parent figures who want to learn how to advocate for themselves, their children, and their communities are welcome to apply to our 2025 cohort.

The gained experiences will never expire and the work will never be done. We just now have the tools and knowledge to pass down to our future generations.

PLTI is a 21-week leadership and civics course that helps parents enact change in their communities.

Deadline: August 22nd or when at capacity.

    Early applications are strongly encouraged.

  • Make A Committment

Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm-9 pm. We provide childcare and dinner, and transportation and interpretation as needed.

At the start of the program, there will be a mandatory, all-day retreat on Saturday, September 20th. Parent leaders need to attend the retreat to continue the program.

To graduate, we ask parent leaders to miss no more than three classes.

The Children’s Leadership Training Institute (CLTI)!

The Children’s Leadership Training Institute is offered to PLTI participants' children ages 7-12 and teaches the same civic skills in an age-appropriate way. CLTI uses interactive learning, playtime, and children’s literature to teach leadership, civics, and democracy skills.

CLTI happens at the same time as PLTI, and is organized into two sections:

Phase I – Developing Community and

Phase II – Democracy and civic skills.

Enrollment for CLTI is included on the PLTI application

  • Kim Whitman, 2024

“PLTI is an extraordinary learning community in which I received countless benefits. The understanding of how to truly listen, how to speak effectively about my passion, and how to understand the systems in which we live are just a few. However, top of the list are the new connections and relationships that were cultivated with the other amazing parent leaders and facilitators. Priceless!”

I am now and beyond thankful for the knowledge, connections, and support this experience provided and will continue to provide.”

“PLTI has exposed me to the many resources this city has to offer. It also connected me with such great people who are also advocates for children in their own way. Just when I thought I was lost, the members of this cohort helped me tremendously by focusing on what I can do to help the community.”

  • Bertha Aldape, 2023
