Raising KC: Family Perspectives on Early Care & Education

At PLTI-KC, we believe that every parent’s lived experience holds the power to shape systems, policies, and the future of our communities. That’s why we are so excited to introduce our upcoming Photovoice event, Raising KC: Family Perspectives on Early Care & Education, happening October 16th.

This unique, intimate gallery-style evening will showcase the voices and visions of twelve parent leaders. Through photography and narrative, parents will share their personal experiences navigating early care and education. These powerful stories reveal both the challenges families face and the hopes they hold for a more promising future for children in Kansas City.

Why Photovoice Matters

Photovoice is where art meets advocacy. As a globally recognized method of community-based research, it equips individuals to use images and reflections to document lived experiences, highlight systemic challenges, and call for change. By combining personal storytelling with photography, Photovoice creates a visceral, human connection that data alone cannot capture.

Building Bridges with Civic Leaders

The heart of this event is dialogue. By inviting elected officials and community partners into the room, we are creating intentional space for listening and connection. Families who are often left out of policy discussions will stand at the center, using their stories to spark reflection, action, and collaboration. These conversations remind us that meaningful change begins with relationships and the courage to listen deeply.

A Call to Action

The Raising KC Photovoice event is a testament to one of PLTI’s core values: parents are powerful civic leaders. When policymakers witness the realities families live every day, they cannot help but be moved to act. By elevating parent voice in this way, we are building the bridge between lived experience and civic leadership, paving the way for more equitable systems for children and families in Kansas City.
